Hi, I am Bajrangi Panjiyar, a B.Sc. 5th-semester student studying at S.B. Deorah College in Guwahati, Assam.
As a college student living in Guwahati, I frequently noticed a common everyday problem: whenever my classmates, friends, or family needed electronics, clothing, footwear, study supplies, or household goods, the default choice was often to order online from massive warehouse-based e-commerce websites. But ordering online usually meant waiting 3 to 5 days for delivery, sometimes receiving wrong or damaged items, or dealing with tedious return processes.
Meanwhile, the vibrant local markets right here in Guwahati — from Paltan Bazaar and Pan Bazaar to GS Road, Ganeshguri, and Dispur — are packed with genuine, hardworking shopkeepers who already have those exact items in stock today, ready to touch, test, and take home immediately.
The challenge was simple: discoverability. Local brick-and-mortar retailers did not have an easy, lightweight digital presence to display what was currently sitting on their shelves to shoppers in their area.
I decided to solve this myself. I built Dhoondo completely from scratch as an independent software project — handling the UI design, Next.js frontend, backend API architecture, and database logic independently.
Dhoondo is not a venture-backed corporation or an anonymous corporate entity. It is an authentic, student-led technology project created with sincere care to support Guwahati’s physical retailers and make everyday shopping easier for local residents.
Engineered with Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, and MongoDB. Designed to be blazingly fast, accessible on low mobile bandwidth, and completely friction-free for both shoppers and shopkeepers.
